Social Medicine

In July 2016, MSTP student Rachel Parks, rising 2nd years Jose Sanchez-Cruz, Jeremy Flores, and Jennifer Cohenmehr, and Center researcher Ron Calderon presented their ethnographic observations of LA’s homeless on Summer Research Poster Day. Click here for the poster.

The Center has the primary responsibility for developing and instituting a Social Medicine and Humanities core curriculum for our university’s medical students.  In the summer of 2016, we mentored rising second-year medical students as they conducted ethnographic observations of LA’s homeless and the medical services offered them.

In 2016-17, we will offer a Social Medicine Scholarly Track Selective to 4th-year students, “The Practice of Medicine in an Unequal Society,” which we hope to expand into a full curriculum module in 2017-18.
